Installing toontown on linux
A quick howto make toontown work on linux. This works for the flavors I have tried ( ex CentOS, Fedora, Mandriva, Ubuntu, etc ). Since I mainly use MintOS on my desktops / laptops, I will gear it more to that.
First you will need to install wine. It is called wine because that is short for Windows Emulator although some call it Wine Is Not an Emulator.
To install wine, open up a terminal, for me it is the menu button then clicking terminal.
Type in sudo apt-get install wine
It will ask for your password and then install wine.
Once done in that same terminal type in winetricks vcrun2008
A new window will open just like a normal windows installer. Click through accept yes install.
Now we need to disable 2 things in wine. Click on menu, all applications, other, then wine. If you are having trouble finding these, then you also can type in winecfg in a terminal.
Switch to the Libraries tab
As shown above, both d3d8 and d3d9 need to be disabled. Pull down the arrow under new override for library then find d3d8. Click on add and edit it to disabled. Do the same thing for d3d9.
Now it is just the same as windows. Go to toontown.com and download the installer, open it up and install it. Will create a icon on your desktop.
Double click it and off to playing toontown you go!
